Procedure/ Time Located | content | Teaching and learning activities | Remarks |
Set induction (4 minutes) | Introducing the 2D shapes. Example – - Triangle - Rectangle - Square | 1) Teacher shows object of 2D shape in the environment such as whiteboard, ruler, book,an eraser, sandwich etc. 2) Teacher introduces todays topic. | Teaching methods 2D models Moral values Cooperative and helpful Thinking skills Comparing and contrasting Vocabulary Triangle.rectangle.square |
Step 1 ( 6 minutes) | Teacher explains the shapes and guides student to names the 2D shapes | 1. Teacher will be introducing 2D shapes and names the shapes. Example : Hi...I am a square.I have 4 straight sides. All my sides are equals in length. Hi...I am a rectangle.I have 4 straitght sides. The opposite sides of me are equal in length. Hi...I am a triangle.1 have 3 straight sides. My sides can be equal or different in length. | Teaching method Acting of 2D shapes Moral values Cooperative and helpful Thinking skills Comparing and contrasting Planning.elaborating, listing KITS Word card, pictures cards, sentence car |
Step 2 (10minutes) | Teacher shows the shapes of different sizes and discusses with pupils. | 1. Teacher shows the rectangles and discusses with pupils . - These are rectangles. Each rectangle has 4 sides. Two of the sides are equal in length. The sizes of the rectangles may be different but the two opposite side of the particular rectangles are always equal in length. -These are square. The square has 4 straight sides. All the sides are equal in length. No matter the sizes of the square shapes,it is always equals in length - These are triangles.Triangles have three sides. The sides, may not be equal in length. In some triangle, two of the sides can be equal or different in length. 2. Pupils will be asked to answer the questions and name the shapes again. | Teaching methods 2D shapes cards, word cards Moral values Cooperative and helpful Thinking skills Comparing and contrasting, planning, elaborating Listing Vocabulary Triangle, rectangle, square, side, Length, equal, sizes KITS Word card, pictures cards, sentence car |
Step 3 ( 7 minutes) | Class Activity.Teacher organise quiz between girls and boys. | 1. Teacher shows the question on LCDs.There are a few questions there. 2. In groups of boys and girls they answer the question in rotate. | Teaching methods Mathematics Courseware Year 4 Moral values Cooperative and helpful Thinking skills Comparing and contrasting Vocabulary Triangle.rectangle.square |
Closure (3 minutes) | Summary of the lesson | 1. Teacher concludes the lesson by asking 3 or 4 pupils to names the shapes. | Teaching methods 2D models Moral values Cooperative and helpful Thinking skills Comparing and contrasting Vocabulary Triangle.rectangle.square |
